Specialist build-to-rent developer Placefirst is proudly celebrating another award for its West End One development at the annual Northern Design Awards ceremony held last week.
On Friday 24th November, hundreds of leading designers assembled at the striking Principal Hotel in Manchester to find out which individuals and companies would be walking away with one of the north’s most prestigious design awards.
West End One, Morecambe was awarded Residential Conversion of the Year. Over 200 companies entered the awards and were chosen as the outstanding winner of their category.
The Northern Design Awards have been running for fifteen years and recognise the talent, effort and innovation of developers, architects and designers, working across the north of England’s property sector.
Placefirst designs, develops, builds, owns and manages a series of ‘neighbourhoods’ across the North-West, offering a true alternative to buying a home through high-quality, expertly managed properties for rent.
David Smith-Milne, managing director of Placefirst, said:
“West End One was one of our very first build-to-rent developments and they have set the standard for all our future projects.
“We are thrilled that our efforts to create homes, unlike anything else in the rental sector, have been recognised on a class leading within the north of England.”
West End One in Morecambe saw an entire block of Victorian guesthouses transformed, retaining original Victorian features whilst bringing the new homes into the 21st century with modern, open plan layouts.
The bright, spacious homes and apartments are gathered around an attractively landscaped central courtyard. Inside the best features, such as high ceilings, large bay windows and ornate architectural details, have been retained. Placefirst has gone on to add high quality, energy efficient doors, windows and insulation, bespoke bathrooms and kitchens, with state of the art connectivity as standard.
Residents are even invited to choose their own colour schemes and kitchen units, which is exceptionally rare within the rental market.
If a resident agrees to move into one of our properties six weeks before we finish building their new home, they are able to choose their own interior finishes. We want people living in a Placefirst property to make their homes their own, and this is our way of helping that happen.
Essentially we aspire to create fantastic homes for working households choosing rental properties over purchasing. These awards, judged by our peers, are a welcome recognition of the time, efforts and sensitive approach we take on each of our projects.
As well the award-winning developments in Accrington and Morecambe, Placefirst is also creating new neighbourhoods in Liverpool, Hartlepool and Leeds, and are set to start work on a number of new developments across the north of England in 2018.
West End One was delivered in partnership with Lancaster City Council. Coun Janice Hanson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for regeneration and planning, said:
We are delighted that the quality of homes being created in Morecambe’s West End by our development partner, Placefirst has been recognised once again by industry experts with the winning of another prestigious award.
West End One has already made a huge difference in changing the perception of the area and its attractiveness to families as being a great place to live. We’re looking forward to continuing our partnership with Placefirst on West End Two and building on this success.
The awards were judged by leading industry professionals such as Linda Barker, Wayne Hemingway, Susie Rumbold of BIID, Gabby Deeming editor of House & Garden Magazine, Ewen Millar regional Chair of RIBA.
